How to Summarize a PDF in Your Browser

Four simple steps. No servers, no API keys—just quick, private summaries.

1

Select your PDF

Click “Select PDF” and choose the document. Pages are parsed locally with pdf.js.

2

Adjust settings

Pick the model, set chunk size, and choose token limits to suit document length.

3

Generate summary

Start summarization. A progress bar shows chunk processing and final synthesis.

4

Review & export

Read the final abstract (and optional partials), then download as .txt or copy.

Privacy & Security

Everything runs locally on your device. No files are uploaded or stored on a server.

Tip for Long PDFs

Increase chunk size gradually and keep partial token limits modest to improve coherence and speed. The first run downloads the model and caches it for future offline use.

Note: Results are best with clear, text-based PDFs. Password-protected or image-only PDFs may require OCR before summarizing.

Fast, Private, and Practical Summaries—Right in Your Browser

Extract with pdf.js and compress with @xenova/transformers. No servers, no API keys—just results.

Local & Private

All processing runs in your browser. No uploads, no accounts, no tracking.

Great for confidential documents.

On-Device Models

Transformers.js downloads a compact model once and caches it for offline use.

Accurate Text Extraction

pdf.js parses your PDF pages into clean text for consistent downstream summarization.

Smart Chunking (Map-Reduce)

Long PDFs are split into chunks → partial summaries → a concise final synthesis.

Controls That Matter

Tune chunk size and token limits to balance speed and detail for any file.

Realtime Progress

A lightweight HUD reports extraction and summarization progress as it happens.

Partial Summaries (Optional)

Inspect each chunk’s gist to verify coverage or create sectioned notes.

Export Ready

One-click download to .txt for sharing or archiving, or copy directly from the UI.

Clean, Readable Output

Well-structured abstracts that are easy to scan and reference later.
